Top tips for saving money on travel

A lot of people have the misconception that you need a lot of money saved up to go on a holiday. However with the internet these days and great cheap flight booking sites like Flybe it’s easy to make your holiday inexpensive. Not only that, but it is fairly easy to find an internet tax prep system to help maximize your tax refund. So when booking your next holiday use these top tips for saving money.

 1. Search the internet for good deals.

As mentioned above there are so many great cheap booking sites for flights these days, it just makes no sense to use a travel agent. Not only that but there are price comparison sites too, so it’s easy to spot the good deals. There are daily deal sites that offer great accommodation that sometimes have up to 75% off. It can take a bit of time, but if you do your research there are great deals every day on the internet for amazing holidays.

2. Sign up for travel deal alerts.

All airlines offer the opportunity to sign up to travel deal alerts for when their airfares go on sale. Some of them even let you pick the destinations that appeal to you most, so you only get those deals. This is a great way to keep tabs on airline sales and pick up a good deal on your flight ticket. You may even end up booking some unexpected holiday, as the deals are just too good to pass up.

3. Book self-catering accommodation.

One of the biggest expenses whilst travelling is eating out at restaurants every meal, every day. You can save a lot of money on food if you have a kitchen at your accommodation. Find the local grocery store and try to at least replace 1 – 2 meals a day with eating at the hotel. You’ll be amazed at how much money you save.

4. Find the local hot spots.

In so many countries you end up paying high tourist prices. This can be an extremely exorbitant mark-up on food, services, travel and products. Best way to save money on your travel is find out where the locals shop and eat. That way you will pay the prices the locals pay.

5. It doesn’t need to be luxurious to be enjoyable.

So many people get stuck with the notion that to have an amazing holiday you need to stay at a five star resort, eat at the best restaurants, and be in complete luxury. Where as matter of fact I’ve had some of the best times when the holidays have been stripped bare and totally basic. Sometimes there is no point spending hundreds of dollars per night for a room that you aren’t in all day. When planning the trip, ask yourself, does it really need to be this luxurious?
