Great Aussie Road Trips By Campervan

Few countries have been seemingly designed for campervan road trips the way that Australia has. The country is best seen on the road, and it’s simply too large for you to fly between key points.

Hiring your own campervan gives you incredible freedom. You can go wherever you like, whenever you choose. Whether you’ve been told about a must-see sight by a fellow tourist or you’re not feeling a particular place, you can easily change the plan on the fly, seeing the best that the country has to offer and creating your own itinerary. Here are some of the best Aussie road trips for you to see by campervan:

Sydney to Melbourne
Two must-visit cities in Australia, with plenty of gorgeous coastal towns to check out along the way. Stop at Kiama for fish and chips, and be sure to visit Lake Tabourie, Mallacoota, Cape Conran, Green Cape, Golden Beach, Fish Creek, Port Albert, and more along the way.

Great Ocean Road
This is one of Australia’s most famous road trips, and you’ll see why once you’ve seen some of these incredible views yourself. The South coast is not only beautiful, but it’s an easy drive as you can stop and start as often as you like along the coastline. Most people are heading towards the 12 Apostles, which are 12 giant rocks shaped by the sea and one of Australia’s famous landmarks.

If you fancy yourself as a budding photographer, this is where you need to go. Bring a tripod and get up early for the sunrise. While the 12 Apostles are worth the trip alone, you’ll also be treated to untouched wildlife, gorgeous beaches, and some of Australia’s best food along the way.

Brisbane to Arlie Beach
If you love the beach, this easy drive is a great choice for you. You’ll have 16-20 laid-back days of driving, with plenty of ice-cream stops along the way. The Sunshine Coast has around 100km of beaches waiting to be explored, and you’ll drive from Hervey Bay to Yeppoon before arriving at Airlie Beach, where you can break out your surfboard.

Cairns to Cape York
If you’re hoping to get back to nature, buckle up for more than 22 hours of road tripping. You’ll go through Mount Carbine Lakeland and Mareeba, past Lakefield National Park, and end the trip in Cape York, which is the Northernmost point in Australia. Here, you’ll find almost untouched beauty, making it a great place to escape the fast-paced hustle and bustle of the city.
