Unfortunately life isn’t all about travel – oh how I wish it was. On those weeks where I’m busy focusing on work to ensure that I have enough savings coming into be able to fund my travel addiction, I can get quite stressed. Trying to juggle work, family life, relationships and friends is a lot. So whether you’re in the middle of a stressful week, or finally at the end, here are four ideas for unwinding after a stressful week that will hopefully help you relax and feel recharged.
1. Exercise
Exercise is such a great way to unwind and relax. Everyone has their preference for exercise whether you prefer to smash out heavy weights in the gym, or find yourself enjoying a relaxing yoga practice. It doesn’t matter what you like, just as long as you make some time to do it a few times a week. Exercise can be game changer, because not only does it help you relax, but it can also be a great way to get rid of creative block. 2. Host a BBQ
Hosting an event might sound like the last thing you want to do when you’re overworked and overwhelmed, but I find that connecting with friends and family is a great way to clean the slate and have me feeling recharged for the next week. In order to take some pressure off yourself, why not ask people to bring a plate of food along so you don’t have to spend the night before up in the kitchen slaving away by the stove. It can be also a good idea to order in your groceries and alcohol ahead of time, so you don’t have to do a large supermarket trip. NakedWinery.com have a few great options at affordable price points.
3. Find Some Water
I personally find water to be very cleansing and calming, whether it’s sitting by the ocean and watching the waves crash into the shore, or it’s going for a swim in a heated pool. Even a simple shower at home can be a great way to refresh myself and calm me down. If you’re someone who finds water relaxing, maybe consider a hot bath to soak in while you read your favourite book. This is a great, inexpensive way to shed your work stress and can be really helpful especially if you’re in a repetitive industry, like data entry.
4. Get a Massage
I’m a big fan of massages which is not surprising as my “love language” is touch. A deep tissue massage can do wonders for a tired back, and make you feel so relaxed resulting in a deeper sleep and an improved mood. Not everyone likes massages, and thats OK, but if it’s your thing it can be a great way to pamper yourself and help you shed your stress.
